Russia Patents New Widebody Aircraft to Compete with Boeing 787

👉🏻Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) has patented a new widebody passenger aircraft designed to compete with Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner. The move comes as Russia’s aviation sector seeks to reduce dependence on Western-made aircraft amid ongoing sanctions.

👉🏻The aircraft will be offered in three versions: a “basic” model, a shorter variant, and an extended version. The basic model is expected to seat 281 passengers, the shorter version 236, and the extended version 320. Its range will vary between 10,300 km and 13,600 km depending on the version.

👉🏻The aircraft is designed to provide lower operating costs compared to the Boeing 787-9. Currently, Russia’s only widebody aircraft in production is the four-engined Ilyushin Il-76. The new project aims to meet the country’s long-haul aircraft needs, with research and development expected to begin in 2026.
